The development of housing policy in Písek after 1989 and its impact on residental differentiation and segregation

This thesis focuses on the development of housing policy in Písek after 1989 and its impact on residential differentiation and segregation. To do this it was necessary to carry out interviews with key stakeholders and to link the findings with quantitative analysis. From the research, it was found that the city primarily established rules of allocation and sale of city apartments and also tried to address the issue of social housing, especially in the context of an aging population. Also important was the development of residential development, which the town supported the various tools. Influence of the housing policy in Písek created several locations which became attractive for housing. In the city, however, also located 2 socially excluded localities incurred controlled migration socially maladjusted people. As an endangered locality by segregation and social exclusion is denoted housing estate Portyč where is but rather a residential differentiation. It is also possible to observe the cooperation of the city with local actors, as well as disputes between the leaders of housing policy. Contribution of the thesis also focuses on analyzing the implications of municipal housing policy of the city and its inhabitants. Ethnic residential differentiation of Karlovy Vary: foreigners and the spa center

Karlovy Vary is currently a city with one of the highest share of foreigners in population in Czechia. Thus, one could expect that residents from foreign countries will have a significant influence on the forming of socio-spatial structures of this city. The present work identifies and characterizes most significant groups of foreigners in Karlovy Vary and evaluates spatial patterns of these groups in the basic settlement units. Emphasis is placed on the concentration of foreigners into the spa center and their other residential preferences, used as a key to interpretation of identified spatial patterns and deepen the knowledge about the state of residential differentiation at the lower scale level. To reach the goals of present work is used a combination of both quantitative and qualitative research methods. A case study is framed within the theoretical framework of concepts of residential differentiation and segregation in the former Eastern block countries context. There is also a brief characterization of the presence of foreigners and ethnic minorities in Czechia or a summary of urban and residential development of surveyed city.

Social housing in Prague

This thesis is focused on the social housing as a housing policy instrument in the territory of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The thesis evaluates the concept from the two comparative advantages of the social housing policy - the first is increase in availability of housing for households that are disadvantaged on the housing market; the second is the possible prevention of development of social- excluded sites. Here in the thesis, those aspects of social housing are investigated on the base of the policy of the Municipality of the capital Prague and on the policy of the particular city-districts. More in detail the impacts of social housing policy are presented for the case of Prague 14 and especially in the case of housing estate Černý Most. There is a high ratio of the municipal housing.
